XBMC Almost ready to go mainstream?
I had used XBMC a couple of years ago in my modded Xbox and I really enjoyed it. Unfortunatly, when I wanted to play HDTV movies and TV programs, the Xbox's hardware wasn't enough. So my search for a better option had begun, and I found a few good alternatives, they just weren't great alternatives. To name a few, Windows MCE with Xbox360, MythTV and Linux MCE all were good but not great.
Enter XBMC for Ubuntu Linux (live cd), Mac OS X (Intel-based Leopard, Tiger, Apple TV) and Microsoft Windows. The ladies and gentilman working on this project have gained a lot of momentum moving forward on these releases. And there is with no doubt more to come with the anouncement of the upcoming release "Atlantis" currently available in Beta1.
Some of XBMC's Key features
- Multi-platform, Internationalized, and Localized
- User-friendly
- Lots of Format and Codec support
- Album and Cover Art
- Extendable and Flexible Add-ons
- Fully Skinnable and Customizable Interface
- Free Open Source
